  • FlashNotes is a basic note-naming game. Click the letter name of the displayed note, and advance through various levels. Easier levels use fewer ledger lines, treble and bass clefs. More difficult levels use more ledger lines and include alto and tenor clefs.
  • FlashNotes Keyboard is similar to basic FlashNotes using a virtual keyboard instead of note-name letters. The game also includes key signatures. In practice mode single and double accidentals can be added.
  • Flash Key Signatures is a key signature identification game for both major and minor keys.
  • Flash Scale Degrees builds on the note-naming and key signature games, and is a bit more challenging. The user must identify the major key signature and note, then identify the scale degree. Scale degrees are identified by number, solfege symbol (movable do system), and by technical name (tonic, supertonic, mediant, etc.).
  • Flash Intervals presents intervals in ascending order of difficulty. Intervals are presented in three modes: blocked (harmonic), broken (melodic), and in regular desktop browsers as sounds. The sound function is disabled on the iPad because of unacceptable latency issues within the Mobile Safari browser when dealing with HTML5 Audio.
  • Keyboard Draw is a simple keyboard "drawing" drill. This game turns the idea of a visible keyboard on its head. Starting with a certain number of white keys and "blank" (dotted outline) black keys, the player can toggle black keys on and off to create the correct groupings of two and three black keys, based on the given starting note. Added BONUS: this game works in older browsers like IE 8!

These games are designed to work in a modern browser and on the Apple iPad. Input for answers can come from the computer keyboard, the mouse, or the touch screen on the iPad. At the end of a game, the top ten scores for all players are displayed. The top score for the current browser is also displayed throughout game play..

You need a modern browser that supports the <canvas> tag to play these games (except for the Keyboard Draw game). The games have been tested on several modern browsers, including FireFox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, and Internet Explorer 9.

FlashNotes Game (older Flash version)

The older FlashNotes games require the Adobe Flash plugin. They are divided into several different games. Note: these games will not work on the iPad.
